## **Kallmann-Museum Presented Galvanizing Memories in Ismaning by Kallirroi Ioannidou**

[**Kallmann-Museum**](https://kallmann-museum.de/?ref=catapult-platform.art)presented Galvanizing Memories by **Kallirroi Ioannidou** from March 1 to June 14, 2026.

A cat is not always a cat. Somewhere between the tail and the raised haunches, the body stops behaving like an animal and starts behaving like a doorway.

What reads as an ordinary stretch from across the room turns, up close, into a small argument about what a body is for.

Stay long enough and the rooms cooperate with the confusion. Scale stops being a reliable guide, and so does material. A wall can behave like skin, and charcoal can carry as much dread as two meters of purple paint.

> An animal, in these rooms, is not a symbol for something else. It is what a body looks like once it stops agreeing to stay one thing.

Kallmann-Museum sits in Ismaning, a town outside Munich known for pairing its permanent collection with quieter, contained shows.

Ioannidou was shortlisted for the Kallmann-Preis der Kreissparkasse 2025 alongside Jonas Brinker, while the prize itself went to Javkhlan Ariunbold. The rooms stayed plain enough that the animals filling them still register as an intrusion.

The cat comes first, stretched the length of one wall in a bruised, artificial purple, front paws down, hindquarters lifted between a stretch and a bow. Where the shoulders meet the neck, the paint opens into a hole, a circular gap cut through the animal's own logic. Smaller paintings hang directly against its flank, among them a pair of pink hands cradling two painted eyes. The mural absorbs them the way skin absorbs a graft.

Around the corner, a second animal pushes the argument further. The bird is painted flat on the wall, purple again, but its wings are cut sheets of raw metal shaped like open human hands, fixed on so they throw shadows the flat body cannot produce. Human and animal compete for the same silhouette here, and for now the metal is winning.

A third room drops the color. Twelve large charcoal drawings hang there, each near two meters tall, catching bodies mid-change: a standing figure with wide black wing-shapes for arms and blank round eyes, a curled form wrapped inside a pointed hood with only two eye-holes cut through it, a cat bent so far forward its spine curls into a question mark, a fish resting under a glass cloche, a raven with both wings thrown open. The charcoal argues the same case the purple paint does two rooms over, just without a joke to soften it.

Ioannidou built this out of a personal fact as much as a formal one. She trained first in spatial planning before turning to painting, and the exhibition still asks how much a room can hold before it stops making sense.

That question lands differently now, with public energy spent arguing what a body is allowed to be, and how much of identity is chosen rather than assigned. Ioannidou does not litigate any of that. She paints bodies that refuse their own outlines.

Leave the rooms and the hole in the cat's shoulder is the image that stays, an opening left where a body would insist on staying whole. The metal hands bolted onto the bird's back do similar work in a different material, holding a shape together by admitting it was never one piece. Ioannidou's rooms never resolve the difference between animal and human, painted and built. They leave it visible enough to walk past twice.
