There is a tension in shared perception, not the comfortable kind, where two people see the same thing and confirm each other, but the kind where looking through someone else's eyes actually changes what you find.
The art duo lom-of-LaMa works from this tension. Their practice begins where most collaborations end, at the point where self and other are no longer clearly separable.



What Call Me We proposes is not a merger of identities but something more precise, an investigation into what remains, and what dissolves, when two subjectivities press against each other. Not fusion. Contact.

The in-between is the productive substance, the material from which resonance evolves, where empathy is not a feeling but a method of making.
SUPERRAUM operates under the umbrella of dortmundkreativ, Dortmund's creative sector initiative, which places it at an interface between institutional support and experimental practice.
That positioning suits lom-of-LaMa's process-based approach more than a conventional white cube would. The show doesn't arrive in a neutral container; it arrives in a space that already carries a logic of exchange.


The work that holds the exhibition's argument most visibly is the modified camera system, a device that only releases the shutter when two people press it simultaneously.
The photographic image that results is not one person's view of the world but an image that required two bodies, two moments of readiness aligning.
The photograph is, in that sense, a proof of contact. What was captured seems to matter less than the fact that the capture required mutual agreement, that a picture is impossible here without another person.



This dialogical approach extends into photogrammetry and 3D scanning, techniques borrowed from engineering and survey work, repurposed to map bodies and objects as they exist in relation.
The sculptural outputs of this process carry a hybrid materiality: they began as bodies in space, became data, and returned as objects. What they hold is not documentation but the residue of encounter.
Running parallel is the duo's treatment of everyday objects, tools reinterpreted for shared use, domestic things that become relational interfaces. The body appears throughout not as a singular subject but as a permeable surface, a site of exchange. Skin as signal rather than enclosure.


Identity, as lom-of-LaMa frame it, becomes a variable, decisions are not made but negotiated. That framing is not metaphorical. It is structural, baked into the camera that won't fire unless you both agree, into the scanner that requires proximity, into every object that has been redesigned around the premise of two.
At a moment when digital environments increasingly simulate presence without requiring it, when connection is framed as a platform feature and empathy as content, this insistence on the physical conditions of shared experience has a particular weight.
The camera system lom-of-LaMa uses is almost anachronistic in its requirements, two bodies, present, aligned. No proxy. No asynchronous substitute.


The subtitle, Can I See Through Your Eyes and Get the Whole Picture? doesn't resolve cleanly. The answer is probably no. But the question, as the exhibition demonstrates, generates more than any answer would.
